Weekend in Connecticut: Oct. 16-18

This past weekend, I went on a trip with some friends to Connecticut. The nine of us that went are the senior board of our law review, an organization at NYU that I spend a lot of time participating in. We decided that a weekend retreat would be good for our spirits. We left Manhattan after school on Thursday and returned on Saturday afternoon.

It was certainly a nice break from school, though we didn't spend much time discussing editorial policy, the finer points of grammar, or even the future of the organization. We also didn't do any trust falls or team building games--we went on a hike instead to build group unity. Here are some pictures.

The house we stayed at (Nelly Ward's family's home) was on the lefthand side of the lake at the top of the photo. We had a lot of fun taking canoe trips in the lake. Sam Nitze, our fearless editor-in-chief, was the only one that took a swim in the cold water.

Here I am, sitting on top of the mountain, missing Andrea. I'm sure she would have loved the view too, though the hike might have been a little rigorous for her with that cute growing belly of hers. As you can tell, I didn't do my hair for a couple of days. That was one of the nicest parts of being away. But I guess the picture confirms what Andrea has been telling me for weeks--I need a haircut. :)

Alex, Meghan, and I are the Senior Executive Editors, or the "4th liners" as we are called internally. Basically, we are the last (or fourth) line of defense on the journal and we try to make sure that no errors creep into the articles we publish. But just because I am a grammar fiend normally doesn't mean that I carefully proofread my blog posts.

I found a walking stick. Isn't that what boys always do on hikes?

Here's a picture of the whole group. Front row: Julia, Meghan, Brian, Nelly, Drew. Back row: Alex, me, Milo (Sam's son), Sam, Matt.

It was a great trip, and I feel fortunate to be friends with these amazing people!

That first picture is amazing! I would love to see that. It looks like you had a good time. And I am glad you took some time off. You need it. Now you just need to post more pictures of Andrea--I really want to see that growing belly. And since we don't have the chance to drive over and see you in California you have to post some pictures!!!

That first photo looked very familiar to me. I brought up our photos from three weeks ago when we backpacked the AT -- we have the same photo except the leaves hadn't changed much yet. I will email you the photo and you can compare. We started our hike just north of Salisbury, CN. Our first lookout was Lion Head. Could it be we hiked the same trail?
