Oh what do you do in the summer time?

So what has Olivia been up to during her first summer? The same stuff that most kids do!

First, she's gone swimming.

The week that we moved back to Utah, we spent a few days up in Park City. It was our first chance to take Olivia swimming and she loved it! Even before she got in for the first time, she was intrigued by the water.

At first she wasn't quite sure what to think...

But she soon got over that.

What else has Olivia been doing this summer? Spending time with cousins! Here she is with Belle on Memorial Day.

And what could be more fun than going swimming with cousins?

She didn't mind getting passed around to her aunts and uncles. Here she is with Uncle Adam.

Olivia's favorite part of that swimming trip was the "lazy river," a part of the pool that had a slowly moving current going around a semi-circular path. We kept going around and around the lazy river.

I guess it must be in her blood, but Olivia has also spent some time this summer practicing the piano. She's already got that dramatic flair!

Olivia enjoyed swinging on the swings with her Aunt Amanda.

Olivia even chatted via webcam with her Aunt Whitney, who was studying in London for a couple of months.

Olivia has been learning how to sit. Her mom helps her practice that every day. Soon, she'll be able to sit on her own.

Olivia has enjoyed jumping, playing, and dancing in a jumper. We can put her in the jumper for as long as an hour without her getting tired of it.

Summertime is for vacations. Olivia has been on two road trips so far this summer: Park City and Bear Lake.

In order to shuttle her around to all of these fun places, Olivia's parents bought a new car.

And they got her a new stroller too.

This running stroller makes it easier to go on off-road jaunts.

The Bear Lake water was pretty cold, so this is about as close as we got to it.

We just enjoyed looking at the beautiful, colorful water.

And it isn't a Bear Lake vacation without a trip to La Beau's for raspberry shakes. Actually, we managed to fit in two stops to our favorite laketown diner.

Bear Lake is on the Utah/Idaho border. Even though we were staying in a condo on the Utah side, we took several trips to the Idaho side. On one of those trips, we took a tour of the Minnetonka Cave.

There were quite a few stairs in the cave, so we strapped Olivia to her dad. That way, he could hold onto the hand railings in the cave.

We saw a lot of neat formations in the cave. Even though it was 40 degrees in the cave, we all loved it, including Olivia!

We enjoyed the beautiful views and mountain trails after we came out of the cave.

On our way back from Bear Lake, we stopped at Ricks Spring.

Olivia has spent several Saturdays supporting her parents in various sporting events. On our first Saturday in Utah, Andrea went to an open-water swim clinic at Deer Creek Reservoir. She practiced swimming in the cold water in preparation for her triathlon which was only three weeks later. In the background, you can see the snow-covered Mt. Timpanogos. The water at Deer Creek was a chilly 52 degrees.

On our second Saturday in Utah, Olivia hung out with her grandparents and cheered on her parents as they competed in a triathlon in Bountiful. The swim for this one was in the Recreation Center's pool--not nearly as intimidating as a swim in Deer Creek.

The distances on this race were all shorter than Andrea's triathlon two weeks later. The swim was 400 meters, the bike was 13 miles, and the run was 3.1 miles.

It was a fun race.

So Olivia, are you enjoying your summer?

Olivia says, "Well of course I am enjoying my summer! Utah is such a fun, albeit rather quiet, place!" Olivia likes to use words like "albeit" when she talks to her grandma. I guess that she got used to the hustle and bustle of NYC--that's why she finds Utah quiet. I love the picture of her at the piano. She seems to have just finished a Brahms ballade.

I can't believe you posted some of these pictures! Ha ha. But it looks like Olivia is having a blast...she can't wait for the end of the month when she gets to see Belle again! :)

Eat Eat Eat, Jump Jump Jump. Once again, looks like she takes after her uncle.

Looks like your summer is shaping up quite a lot like ours: getaway to Park City, Bountiful Rec Center with the kids, triathlons (well, a different sort of triathlon; I'm referring to the three-part event of Potty-Training -- comprised of bribery, threats and praise). How long will you be in Utah?
